Workshop
Descriptions:
Series
4 - Generating
More Productive Ideas includes all of the following four workshops.
Workshop
#1—The
Importance of Knowing What is Important
Skill: Making
Difficult Decisions
Description: Problems
arise when what is important to customers is not fully supported by the
organization, or when what is important to the owners is not supported
by the
employees. We call
this a “value
gap.” A value gap
can occur in an
organization that has unidentified, missing or conflicting values. Value
gaps impact a business where it hurts
most, i.e. customers’ motivation to buy products, cooperation
among employees,
and at the heart of the enterprise, the interactions where new ideas
are born and
problems solved.
The
participants
will learn:
o
How
to
identify what customers care about.
o
How
to align
what is important to the company and
to the employees.
o
How
to
determine what is essential and
non-essential to the business.
o
How
to keep
what is important in the forefront.
o
You
will
develop a value grid
to help
uncover and correct hidden or destructive value gaps in your
organization and
perform value analysis exercises during the workshop using a real world
example.
Workshop
#2—Generating New Strategies
Skill: Question-Driven
Thinking
Description: Ideas
are the product of thinking and thinking is the product of the
questions we
entertain. Clearer,
sharper thinking
produces better ideas. The
better a
person’s ability to craft questions, the higher quality ideas
he
will arrive
at. In this
session, students will
experience using Question Driven Thinking to develop strategies that
can be
used to manifest values they developed in the first session.
The
participants will learn:
o
How
to
recognize and upgrade ineffective patterns
of thought.
o
How
the
skillful use of questions can help create
more effective strategies.
o
How
to use
questions to move a project ahead.
o
How
to use
question-driven thinking to keep
communications on track.
o
You
will
develop a strategy grid
based on
what is important to your business now.
Workshop
#3—The True
Power of
Collaboration
Skill: The
Segue™—Developing Team Coherence
Description: You
will
learn how to stop wasting your most valuable resource, the collective
intelligence of your people. Finding a
way for everyone on the team to contribute to solving complex problems
allows
them to own the success and accomplishment of the project or company. The
Segue™ is a simple protocol which
project
teams employ to cut through distractions and focus their attention on
developing ideas which will bring success to the organization. A
Segue™ will be used to demonstrate how
team
objectives and ownership can be established that support the strategies
and
values of an organization.
The
participants will learn:
o
How
to
increase the velocity of generating new
ideas.
o
How
to
improve collaboration in all phases of the
operation.
o
How
to use
collective intelligence to generate
specific objectives which support your business strategies.
o
How
to
strengthen communication and cooperation
at the same time as handling practical matters of the business.
o
You
will
develop an objective grid
and a collaboration
opportunity grid for your
organization.
Workshop
#4—Knowing You Are On
Course
Skill: Performance
Description: Effective
strategies require measurable
objectives. Our
businesses, while meeting
the challenges
of an economic downturn, are facing value shifts in our culture and
society which
impact them. Developing
multiple bottom
line metrics and scorecards will help your business stay relevant to
your
customers and employees.
What
the
participants will learn:
o
How
to turn
values into metrics.
o
How
to build
metrics for multiple bottom lines.
o
How
to catch
conflicts and problems earlier.
o
How
to map
the evolution of your organization’s
values.
